Friday

Hi Class 1,

I hope you have had a good week and enjoyed your home learning.  I have received lots of lovely work, thank you, which I will share on our home learning page after half term, so if you haven't sent yours already, you still have time.  Below is the last day of home learning before half term.  I will upload two optional tasks for you tomorrow, including a real life Guinness World Record challenge for you to attempt and an NHS competition for you.  There will be no other activities over half term, other than to have a lovely break and enjoy spending time with your family.

I will see you after half term for another week of home learning.

Year 6, I know you have probably started to think about secondary school and that some of you will have received transition activities from your secondary schools.  There will be lots of activities and support for you via this home learning page after half term.

Y5/6 Writing:

Continue with yesterday’s writing task.

Y5/6 Topic:

You have today and tomorrow to complete this task.

Some work by Banksy recently appeared at Southampton Hospital (7th May 2020). Visit the link below to find out about it:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52561722

Thinking about what you have learned and choosing your own style, which may incorporate some of the ideas and techniques from the artists studied so far, your challenge is to design your own piece of artwork to pay tribute to someone you feel has been an inspiration in some way during the coronavirus pandemic. It may be the NHS, another key worker, a family member who has done something in your community or someone else who has inspired you. You will need to think carefully about the message you would like to portray before you create your piece of art, so it may be a good idea to use today to plan out some possible ideas and try out some different techniques you would like to use and then tomorrow you could spend the time putting these ideas together to create your final piece. Once you have finished, please send your planning and your final piece of artwork to headteacher@netherseal.derbyshire.sch.uk as I would like to create a virtual display of your work in tribute to the people who have inspired you during the coronavirus pandemic.

Maths:

In your maths book, complete the arithmetic questions, for your year group, uploaded below. Remember the short date and title: Arithmetic.

Can you complete it in 30 minutes?

Can you beat your previous score from last week’s arithmetic test?

I have included the answers on the last page of the Year 5 arithmetic and as a separate document for Year 6, so when you have finished, make sure you mark and correct your answers.

Y5/6 Topic:

Today we will look at Banksy. Read the information, vocabulary and tasks about the artist in the document uploaded below. Record your answers in your topic book. Remember the long date and the title: Artist Study – Banksy. You should use the bold words in the task box, as your sub headings for your work. There are a range of ways of creating and using stencils e.g. creating a stencil using card/paper and scissors and then using a sponge to dab paint within the stencil, so research your own ways, rather than the way suggested on the PDF and use them to create your own piece of artwork. Please send me your creations to: headteacher@netherseal.derbyshire.sch.uk

Y5/6 English:

Reading –

Read the example editable biography text for your year group. Decide what features in terms of specific features for the text type, layout, grammar, punctuation and spelling it has (like we have done lots of times for different text types before in school) and either print it out and highlight and annotate it, highlight and annotate the text straight onto the text on the computer or record the features as a bullet pointed list in your English book. Remember to include the long date and the title: Features of a Biography. Once you think you have identified all the features, look at the annotated biography text for your year group to check your answers and ensure you understand all the features you will need to include in your writing task below, which links to this reading task.

Writing –

You will need to complete the reading task above before completing this writing task. You have three days to complete this writing task, so choose how much you would like to do today, and how much you would like to leave for another day.

Choose a landscape artist of your choice.  You may choose to look at one of the artists we have already looked at, but in more detail or you may decide to choose a different landscape artist of your choice. In your English books, research and make notes about your chosen landscape artist, turn it into a biography using your reading task as support and then edit and improve it.  Make sure you have included all the features explored in the reading task. Finally, create a final version of your biography either by hand or on the computer. You could also include pictures/illustrations of the person you are writing about and some of their artwork.

You may decide to follow this structure:

Monday – Research and make notes about your chosen landscape artist and begin writing your draft version, starting with the introduction.

Tuesday – Continue and complete writing your biography and begin editing and improving.

Wednesday – Finish editing and improving your work and then create your final version.

Remember this is just a guide, so you can choose how much of the writing task you would like to do each day, aiming to complete it by Wednesday. Please send me your final versions to headteacher@netherseal.derbyshire.sch.uk
