Animal Encounters

9 June 2019 (by admin)

On Friday, our pupils had a reunion with the chicks that hatched in school earlier this year! It was great for the children to see how they had grown and make the link between the small, fluffy chicks we reared in the incubator to the adult chickens.

They also had the opportunity to handle and stroke some adorable baby rabbits - photographs are on the website or available as a quick link on the School Jotter Dashboard.

Class 1 currently have the responsibility of rearing stick insects and butterflies; we are looking forward to seeing the adults emerge and releasing the butterflies later on this term.

Having all of these animals in school is fantastic for the pupils. Not only does it enrich their learning in science, it builds a sense of responsibility and empathy and provides a real sense of wonder for the natural world - and it's fun!

Thank you to Miss Halsey for organising our animal encounters and a HUGE thank you to the Year 5 parent who has looked after our growing chickens and for bringing them and the rabbits into school!
