Welcome to Hawk Class - Mrs Slater and MIss laity (EYFS/Year 1)
Our Early-Years areas are spacious and planned carefully. We have a well-equipped outdoor learning area and the up-to-date technology that is common to all of our classrooms.
Every day there are opportunities for play and more direct learning. Children are provided with activities that enable them to explore, investigate and practise emerging skills.
At our school, we use Monster Phonics, a structured phonics programme that helps children learn to read and write with confidence. It follows a clear, systematic progression while using fun, multi-sensory approaches to make learning memorable and engaging.
Monster Phonics uses colours and friendly character "monsters" to help children remember different sounds, including long vowels, silent letters and tricky spellings. Each monster represents a specific sound, bringing phonics to life and making learning enjoyable.
As children become more confident, these visual supports are gradually removed, helping them develop into independent readers. The combination of engaging characters, colour coding and consistent teaching helps children learn phonics more quickly and effectively

EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) lasts until the end of Reception year. At the end of the year, your child's teacher decides to what extent they have met the 'Early Learning Goals'.
The ELG identify key skills that children should demonstrate by the end of Reception. Children who have not met some or all of these will continue to work on these aspects in Year One.

Knowledge organisers are not a curriculum. The body of knowledge that children gain at the end of a topic will be much deeper and wider but they are a very useful short document giving parents and children the key facts, vocabulary and information about the topic being studied.

To support our teaching of phonics, we have purchased the Monster Phonics Programme which is DfE approved. It is a very engaging, colour-coded, multi-sensory system and is used in Hawk Class (from EYFS through to Year 2).

Maths in Hawk Class...

In Hawk Class, we aim to provide our children with a curriculum which develops their mathematical skills to their full potential and inspires a love and appreciation of the world of mathematics.

We aim to ignite children's curiosity and to help develop their skills, knowledge and attitudes about the world in which we live, by presenting science experiences which are in a practical and relevant context. The children have enjoyed investigating our five sense with a range of different activities and making a very healthy salad!
DT in Hawk Class...
Look at our amazing aeroplanes we have created this year! We used lots of skills, such as measuring, sawing and cutting to make the main part of our plane. Then our grown-ups helped us to create and decorate our final product.
