Please do not send children with 'smart watches
7 January 2020 (by admin)
I know you all agree that the safety and security of our children is an absolute priority.
We have been advised that the level of encryption on children's 'smart' phones is relatively weak. Companion apps on parents' phones can allow remote access without the parents' knowledge, enabling hackers to see children's past and current movements through GPS and even change the geographical location so that they appear to be in a different place. Some devices allow hackers to send a hidden text to listen to live audio of the child or contact them directly; SOS buttons can be disabled or programmed to call someone else.
Consequently, as a potential safeguarding and GDPR issue, children must not wear watches with GPS, texting/messaging or SOS capabilities to school. (Please refer to our uniform and internet safety policies.)
Thank you for your support and understanding in this matter.
