Whole School Topic

In honour of National School Sport Week, Olympic Day (Tuesday 23rd) and National Cricket Week, our whole school topic for this week, is based on P.E.  Below are some documents to support you with your challenge.  Choose a challenge or some challenges from the 'P.E challenges' folder.  Then try a cricket challenge from the 'National Cricket Challenge' folder uploaded below, where there will be a new cricket related challenge uploaded each day, along with some related activities, in honour of National Cricket Week.  Get active and have fun!

Maths:

Y5 – Today we are going to look at the final part of interpreting tables: interpreting timetables. You should create a number line to help you calculate the time durations. Remember, using column subtraction is not an efficient method, as time adds up to 60, not 10/100/1000 like numbers in a column do.

Read the example at the top of the 'Y5 Timetables' document uploaded below, which explains how to work out the questions.  Then choose your challenge to complete: A, B or C.

A is the easiest and C is the hardest so make sure you choose which challenge is right for you.

Record your work in your maths book. Remember the short date and the title: Timetables. Make sure you create a number line to help you answer the questions and use a ruler to draw the line.

Y5/6 Performance/Writing/Science:

This task to for today and tomorrow, so choose how much you would like to do today and how much you are going to leave until tomorrow.

Read the information about shadows in the Shadows PowerPoint uploaded below. Your challenge is to create two shadow puppets, as explained in the PowerPoint. Practise using the ‘Experiments and Enemies’ script and the performance success criteria uploaded below, along with the shadow puppets you have made, to perform the script.  Once you are happy with it, continue and complete the script, using the play script success criteria uploaded below to help you. Record your script neatly in your topic book. Remember the long date and the title: Shadows Play Script. Once you have practiced it, along with the initial script and your puppets, perform to a family member and get them to assess you against the success criteria.  You could even video yourself performing it with your shadow puppets and send them to headteacher@netherseal.derbyshire.sch.uk

Tuesday

Maths:

Y5 – Play one round of ‘Times Table Rock Stars’.

Then, today we are going to start looking at interpreting tables. Make sure you read all of the information in the table carefully and you will do a great job with this.

Look at the table on the first page carefully and then choose your challenge to complete: A, B or C. A is the easiest and C is the hardest so make sure you choose which challenge is right for you. Get interpreting, but make sure you read the information carefully! Record your answers in your maths book. Remember the short date and the title: Interpreting Tables.

Once you have finished interpreting the data, mark your answer, using the answer document, which I have also uploaded below.

 

Y6 – Throughout the rest of this week, for maths, you are going to be revising decimals and percentages. I have uploaded two documents below containing a range of SATs style questions, focusing on each of these areas. You should work through these documents throughout this week, so choose how many you would like to do each day, aiming to complete the booklets by the end of the week. Answer the questions in your maths book. Remember to include the short date and the title: Decimals for the first booklet and Percentages for the second booklet. Once you have completed them, please mark and correct your answers using the answer booklets, also uploaded below.

Use the 'Note Making Success Criteria' uploaded below and the Isaac Newton Colour Experiment Fact Sheet from your reading task to help you create a set of notes. You may also wish to do some further research on the computer about the topic to extend your notes further.

Once you have made your notes, practise using your notes as a prompt to tell someone else about what you have found out. The 'Sharing my Notes Success Criteria' uploaded below will remind you about what we are looking for.

When you think you are happy with your presentation of your notes, use your notes to support you in telling a family member about what you have found out and get them to assess you against the success criteria.  You could even video yourself presenting them and send them to headteacher@netherseal.derbyshire.sch.uk and you could be the science expert sharing your ideas on our home learning page next week.
