Our Curriculum in Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 (Class 2)
The curriculum in Years 2, 3 & 4 develops children's skills and knowledge and builds on the prior learning that has taken place in Reception and Year 1. The strong grounding in gaining basic skills in English (including grammar, phonics & spelling) and mathematics continues through discrete daily lessons, whilst links within and across subjects ensure cohesion.
Topics are carefully-arranged into three cycles (see below) to take account of the school's mixed-age groupings.
The rich and varied curriculum is further enhanced by a wide range of activities such as trips to the theatre and to places of interest linked to current curriculum topics, visits by poets and authors, whole-school maths days, whole-school science days and so on.
All children in these year groups learn to play a recorder as part of curricular provision, whilst opportunities to learn a woodwind and/or stringed instrument are offered through peripatetic music lessons
